Brazil fails to get past Venezuela in World Cup qualifying

Brazil was stuck in a draw at home against Venezuela in the World Cup qualifying series. The score was 1-1 in Cuiaba. Argentina recorded a narrow victory over Paraguay at home: 1-0.

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães gave the Brazilians the lead shortly after half-time after a corner from Neymar, but Venezuelan Eduard Bello equalized just before the end. In the final phase, Brazil was unable to avert a loss of points.

Nicolás Otamendi was the man of the evening in Buenos Aires, scoring the only goal in the third minute. The Benfica defender scored the ball with a volley after a corner from Rodrigo De Paul.

Second half with Messi

For the Argentinians, Lionel Messi came on for Julián Álvarez shortly after the break. Messi’s participation was questionable. The Argentinians’ star player has not been fit in recent weeks.

Argentina is in the lead in the World Cup qualifying series after three rounds, with 9 points. The Brazilians, who play the away match against Uruguay next week, have 2 points less after the draw.
